The Central and Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross is excited to be a part of The Great New York State Fair.
Thanks to the generosity of Crucible Industries, the Red Cross is once again offering convenient parking across from the fair’s main gate. The volunteer-operated parking lot will be open every day during the event’s 13-day run, Aug. 24 – Sept. 5.
The donation to park is $10, with proceeds supporting Red Cross programs and services.
In the past year, local Red Cross volunteers responded to nearly 300 home fires and other disasters, providing assistance for 535 households; Installed 765 free smoke alarms in homes while also presenting fire safety education and prevention to residents; trained more than 14,200 people in CPR, water safety and other life-saving skills; served over 1,200 military families and provided more than 4,200 case services to aid veterans, members of the military and their families; and collected nearly 46,300 units of blood from volunteer donors.
During the fair, volunteers are needed to safely direct traffic into the lot, direct vehicles to available spots, and sell refreshments. Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are available. For each shift worked, volunteers will receive complimentary parking on the day of their shift, and a fair admission ticket to be used on any day of the fair.
