Cegan Chamberlain of Clinton County received several blood transfusions during his successful treatment for an internal hemorrhage. Now fully recovered, he contacted us to share his story.

“At the beginning of this past summer, I experienced a life-threatening internal hemorrhage in my splenic artery. This led to an emergency visit to a local hospital, where I received 8 units of blood, along with an additional 2 units during surgery to address the significant blood loss. Following the surgery, complications arose, and I was life-flighted to Burlington. My condition became too critical, and ultimately, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston took over my care. I was transferred to MGH for further treatment.

“Throughout my hospitalization, I required 5 additional units of blood and underwent numerous procedures. Tragically, during one of these procedures, I hemorrhaged from another artery, which caused me to code from the blood loss. After three minutes of CPR and a rapid blood transfusion, I was successfully resuscitated. At that point, I needed 8 more units of blood to stabilize.

“I truly believe that without the life-saving assistance of your agency and the unwavering support from the community, I would not have survived this ordeal at the age of 28. Today, I am fully recovered and have been back to work for the last three months as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist at a middle school, where I am making a positive impact on the lives of students every day.

“I’m reaching out to share my story—not only for myself but also on behalf of others who may be going through similar challenges. Your efforts, as well as the community’s, truly made all the difference in my recovery.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
