Before Metallica set the all-time attendance record for a concert at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, they partnered with the American Red Cross to promote blood donations at the Liverpool Red Cross Donation Center. Each event turned out to be a rockin’ success!
Metallica’s charitable foundation, All Within My Hands, focuses on supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and critical local services. It’s under this third prong of their mission where they were able to team up with the Red Cross for a promotion that will extend throughout their M72 North American Tour.

It began the week before their April 19 concert in Syracuse. Fans and participants could sign up or show up to donate blood, platelets, and plasma from April 14-18 and be a part of this promotion – and they certainly did show up!
The impact of this promotion was apparent almost immediately, as appointment slots filled to capacity for each day throughout the week. While the final numbers are impressive and inspiring, 349 donated products (a typical week would result in around 150 products), what’s even more impressive is the effort put in by the Collections Team to help make this possible.

Balancing the attention to detail and flow of a full donor schedule is one thing, this team also managed to find room for the influx of walk-in donors helping to save lives and score the limited-edition Red Cross + Metallica t-shirt. Pictured: Amanda and Kayla had tickets for the concert and scored their t-shirts at the blood drive.
As Metallica will agree, without the dedication, teamwork, and expertise of the crew behind the scenes – the record setting concerts and weeklong blood drives would not be possible.
We would like to extend our utmost gratitude and appreciation for the Collections Team that make every donation possible and for the preparation and execution that went into making this partnership such a success. Your efforts and commitment to the missions of both the Red Cross and Metallica’s All Within My Hands were an invaluable key to this event’s success. Thank you.
All Within My Hands also wishes to express their gratitude for the Collections Team behind this incredible event. Renée Richardson, Director of Philanthropy states, “All Within My Hands was built on the idea of inviting Metallica fans to participate in our philanthropic efforts and this was the first time we partnered with the American Red Cross. Our first blood drive on this tour was in the Syracuse area and what a massive success! This is all thanks to the great people doing this work daily. Because of the expertise, dedication, and passion of the Collections Team, we know the fans walked away with a brand-new Metallica memory that is truly lifesaving. Thank you to everyone who helped those fans make a difference!”
