The American Red Cross Eastern New York Region is made up of approximately 1,800 volunteers serving 24 counties in Upstate New York. With a wide array of programs and services being offered throughout the year, there’s usually a lot going on! Since last Friday, our Disaster Action Team volunteers have responded to eight local fires and a hazmat evacuation, providing emergency assistance to a total of 40 people. Make sure you’re following @RedCrossENY on Twitter for updates from disaster responses around the region.
Volunteers in the Mohawk Valley teamed up with the Rome Fire Department on Saturday for an important fire safety and smoke alarm installation event. Following several major fires this year affecting the Pine Haven Mobile Home Park – including a tragic fatal fire in June – local agencies came together to deliver free resources and fire safety training in the community. During this one-day event, Red Cross volunteers and partners installed 76 free smoke alarms and educated 41 households about preventing and preparing for home fires. We celebrated #NationalDogDay with News10ABC in Albany on Sunday! Red Cross spokesperson Kimmy Venter joined Lexi Nahl and her dog, Muffin, to talk about how to keep furry friends safe in the event of a home fire or other emergency. We also covered lots of great info in the Red Cross Pet First Aid App, which is FREE to download!
We kicked off a month-long fundraising campaign this week with longtime partners Price Chopper/Market 32 and NewsChannel 13.
