For patients in the ER, fighting cancer or facing a life-threatening illness, help can’t wait. But without necessary blood products, patient care may be delayed. It’s critically important to maintain the blood supply to ensure blood and platelets are available when and where they’re needed.

You can help the American Red Cross ensure that hospital shelves are stocked for patient emergencies and everyday medical treatments by making the next available blood or platelet donation appointment near you.

Last winter Maria Modelski had a pregnancy complication that frequently leads to severe blood loss. “I kept hearing there was a blood shortage around this time last year and was worried that there wouldn’t be enough blood for me.” Fortunately, Maria only needed a single unit of blood, and her treatment wasn’t impacted by blood shortages.

“I am very thankful to still be here today with my family and my almost-1-year-old. Thank you to those who donate.”

More blood and platelet donors are needed to prevent a shortage this spring. You can help by scheduling an appointment using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
