Recovery Caseworkers assist families or individuals who have been impacted by disasters such as flooding, home fire or natural disaster.

Volunteer Danielle Kellar from the Central and Northern New York Chapter joined our Disaster Cycle Services team nine months ago and became a Recovery Caseworker Supervisor.
Danielle uses her training to provide follow-up, assesses ongoing needs and help with referrals to community resources and other recovery planning.
Danielle wears many hats with the American Red Cross and believes in continuity of care and enjoys helping people who are in need.
“Volunteering with the Red Cross has given me a kind of satisfaction that’s hard to put into words. Through my work with the Red Cross, I get to walk alongside individuals and families during some of their most difficult moments. Helping them navigate the aftermath of a disaster, connecting them to resources, and watching them slowly regain stability gives me a deep sense of purpose. It’s not just about providing services; It’s about listening, encouraging, and letting people know they’re not alone. The satisfaction comes from knowing that what I do matters – not in a grand, world-changing way – but in those very personal, human moments when someone feels seen, supported, and cared for.”
We need more volunteers like Danielle and are seeking individuals throughout Eastern New York to join us as a Recovery Caseworker. We also have several other volunteer opportunities. Visit our website to learn more and to apply.
